Winter Solstice with the Riverstrong Forest School

To celebrate the winter solstice in December 21st, UrbaNature in partnership with Riversong Forest School ran a special Solstice forest school in the Falasie St-Jacques. we took a snowy walk through the forest to the Falaisosaurus (a sculpture by Junko) where we built a spiral out of natural elements found on our walk. The spiral is a traditional symbol related to Solstice that allows us to reflect on the return of the light as the days start to grow longer. Children and adults alike walked the spiral and placed candles to light the path. We observed different birds, especially chickadees and woodpeckers, enjoying the feeders and dead wood nearby.

This years event had 23 participants from 9 families registered for this first Forest School! More forest school events are planned, so keep an eye on our facebook page to sign up!
